The supraregional impacts of extreme weather events on society and nature are documented by the “heat summer” in 2003 and by the floodings in the years 2002 and 2013. Since the beginning of the 1990ies an accumulation of extraordinary weather occurrencies, which have raised a bundle of still unanswered questions in the field of climate diagnosis, can be observed. Since different extreme weather events have taken place the public awareness of climate change and the information needs have risen.
The project INTERKLIM informs about current and medium- till long-term climate changes in the Czech-Saxon border area. Target groups of the project are the public authorities of agriculture, forestry, water management, the tourism economy, the regional planning agencies, environmental and nature protection associations, climate researchers and the interested public.
